Computers and digital technology play a significant role in modern life, and the gaming industry has become one of the world's fastest-growing sectors. Esports allows learners to explore this exciting industry while developing valuable transferable skills including teamwork, communication, strategic thinking, problem solving and digital literacy. Rather than simply playing games, learners gain an understanding of the business, media, technology and organisational elements that underpin the esports sector.
Our Esports curriculum at Mary Immaculate High School provides learners with the opportunity to develop both practical and theoretical knowledge of the esports industry. Learners explore areas such as competitive gaming, event management, content creation, broadcasting, marketing, teamwork and the use of digital technology within esports organisations. They also develop an awareness of online safety, responsible gaming and the importance of maintaining a healthy balance when engaging with technology.
All lessons take place in our £130,000 purpose-built Esports suite, equipped with high-specification gaming PCs, professional peripherals and industry-standard software. This state of the art facility enables learners to experience the technologies used throughout the esports sector whilst producing work to a professional standard and developing skills in an environment designed specifically for competitive gaming and digital media production.
Through studying Esports, learners gain insight into a rapidly expanding industry whilst developing skills that are highly valued by employers, colleges and universities. The course encourages creativity, collaboration and digital confidence, helping learners prepare for further study and future careers within both the technology and wider digital industries.
