Rugby Lesson

The Mary Immaculate PE department aims to provide activities in a safe and enjoyable environment. Every student, regardless of ability, is fully challenged through well planned and differentiated learning objectives.

All students are required to take two lessons a week of PE at Key Stage 4 but are also able to take additional PE courses as part of their option choices.

At Key Stage 3 we aim to build upon the experience pupils will have gained in PE lesson at primary school. In Years 7 and 8 all students participate in 3 periods of PE per fortnight. They take part in a wide curriculum which includes themes such as team-work, creativity, resilience and health, fitness and wellbeing. These themes are taught over a number of areas including traditional and non-traditional sports and activities.

As part of the option process students can choose WJEC GCSE PE or WJEC Level 2 Award in Sport and Coaching Principles. Both of these qualifications have a significant theory weighting and also a practical element; for the GCSE PE this is through practical performance in three activity areas and for the Level 2 Award in Sport and Coaching Principles this is through practical coaching sessions.
